Traveling to Dublin

Author: Sian McInnery
Dublin is a wonderful city to visit, no matter what time or year. Spring is the ideal season to visit Dublin because its off-season and the rates are reasonable and because it's when many of the holidays and festivals occur. Of course, the most important holiday in Dublin is St. Patrick's Day. If you'd like to visit during the holiday, be sure to make reservations!

Shopping is particularly enjoyable in Dublin. The main areas to shop are Temple Bar, Nassau Street, Henry Street, O'Connell Street, St. Stephen's Green, and Grafton Street. If you're looking for a new wardrobe, go to Brown Thomas department store on Grafton Street. You will be sure to find beautifully designed clothing of Irish design.

Dublin offers several department stores that will keep you busy for hours. St. Stephen's shopping mall offers the largest department store. This area of Dublin gets busy in the summer with plenty of hustle and bustle. Plan on making reservations at restaurants to save on lengthy waits in line.

Dublin has shopping for everyone, including clothing, jewelry, crafts, and antiques. If you take a trip to Dawson Street you'll be able to find some smaller, exclusive clothing stores. These stores will carry a more expensive line of clothing but will be well worth the price when you find yourself wearing a one-of-a-kind designer dress.

Colorful indoor and outdoor markets contribute to Dublin's fame. The largest and most popular of these is Mother Redcap's located in Back Lane. The market is huge and will entice you with books, music, antiques, and clothing. Also on offer are tasty fare such as cheeses and cakes, among other delights.

Catch Books, on Duke Street, features a wide selection of antiquarian books. Dublin also houses a number of terrific bookstores to entice both general readers, and those seeking rare first editions. Make sure you schedule shopping time if you plan a holiday in Dublin.
