The Dynamics of Small Actions

Author: Don Doman

We're constantly searching for the best . . . the brightest . . . looking for a large impact . . . something that will make a big difference . . . someone to make a major contribution . . . dreaming of a huge increase . . . a greater effort . . . more profit . . . seeking that great golden someday.

Perhaps, we are looking at the wrong end of the size spectrum. The best solutions are not dependent on dimensions.

Small actions have the potential of greatness within them. Small actions act as levers. They can move the world by slight adjustments. Small actions produce change.

  • An idea can launch a company.
  • A loving touch can save a marriage.
  • The support of a friend can mean everything.
  • Applause inspires.
  • One vote can carry an election.
  • A kind word can heal a sorrow.
  • Acceptance delivers peace.
  • Communication can ignite a turn-a-round.
  • A pat on the back can reassure.
  • A compliment can motivate a workforce.
  • A goal delivers the future.
  • A smile can change the world.

Small actions are powerful. But we have to be really careful of small actions because they can crush as well as create.

  • An angry word can start a war, end a marriage, or wipe out a business.
  • A lie ruins reputations.
  • A sneer can extinguish a dream.
  • A complaint creates resentment.
  • Blame can destroy a team, a relationship, and an organization.

Small actions can make us better. They can improve relationships and forge a destiny, but they are so powerful we must exercise caution and restraint. Like a bee sting, small actions can be painful. Small actions are easy to take, but we must choose our actions both big and small, wisely.
